Enjoying Summer Means Eating Healthy and Staying Hydrated..
Summer is finally here and the heat waves are raising temperatures all over the US. With temperatures and humidity so high, it’s very important to stay hydrated and eat healthy. But sometimes, with all the summer traveling is very hard to stay on track. We collected a few tips that can help you during this season.
Plan ahead
Planning ahead your meals is always a great way to stay healthy during long trips. Try to create some pre-made healthy snacks like cut up fruits and vegetables in ready-to-eat portions. Celery, cucumbers, green peppers, carrots, watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes, and strawberries are full of water to ensure seniors are staying hydrated as well as being nutritious.
Smoothies
Smoothies are very nutritious meal replacements, if you don’t feel like eating. Be sure to add spinach (for protein) and light yogurt, or plant-based milks, instead of ice cream. Ice cream tastes good but doesn’t provide the necessary nutritional benefits required to stay healthy.
Try to avoid Caffeine
Coffee and teas are great to start our day but caffeine a very know diuretic. What does that mean? It just means it can get you dehydrated faster. If you love your caffeinated beverages, try to drink more water to compensate it. In long trips, depending on how you are traveling, is not always easy to find available restrooms.
Share with you caregiver
This are all great tips you can share with your caregiver or home care provider also. This way you can plan and have a schedule that will keep you on the right path.
